Playin Catch-Up

In hopes of being able to catch up to this here present day of May 16, the long-awaited day of arrival of my dearest Jeffry Hancock and the all too unreal mark of a month and a half left of classes (hence the incessant work, erghh), I thought I'd say a few things about what's what.

Been living in the 'San Telmo Bronx' as one stencil artist has asserted. Suppose the griminess of the place, the life, the folks hanging out on curbs, the art scene, the jazz clubs, la VIDA, digamos, might compare to a beloved NY borrough, but qué sé yo? Definitley a nice change from the barrio of yester-year, Recoleta, where I lived with a family for the first month, which while damn good looking aint got much of a personality than an upturned nose. Not to say it has nothing to offer, just not into living there per se.

Class wise...kind of kicking myself for choosing classes other than "espanol para extranjeros" and "bebidas y gastronomia"...up to the orejas in developing a hypothetical case city and a set of policies/mechanisms to apply to make it "green" within a given number of years. That's for the Gestion Ambiental (Environmental Management) class. Turned in an essay on the function of treaty reservations within international maritime law for my Derechos Internacionales (International Rights) class today. Not gonna lie, the class on the Literatura de Borges has been a welcomed break. Working on developing a Northeastern Argentine "rito" to study and write a 10 pager for my Folklorico Argentino class. And lastly been getting down with DNA/RNA transcription with my 8AM, 4 hour long Biologia class on Fridays. Did I mention all in spanish, hi-oh!

Well let's be honest, "study abroad" is a conudrum...Done did some travels to Paraguay and Urugay. The primary consisted of being wined and dined by the family who happened to own the biggest grocery store in what was a fairly decent sized colonial-style town, Villarica (think: mansion, pool, maids plural, 24 hour security guards with shotguns and a farm house 15 minutes away). The latter, Uruguay, was done up in a whirlwind 5-day tour of Montevideo, Punta del Este (what is said to be one of the top beach towns of South America, too bad it was off-season, eh) Colonia (UNESCO world-preserve city) and Salto (hot-springs-r-us) by bus and rented car. Good people, good times.

Other than travels and studies it all comes down to trying to absorb as much of the "Porteño" life as possible. Which all in all is pretty half-dec, really starting to like the craziness that is this city. Futbol, Plazas and Mate. Subtes, Colectivos and middle-aged taxistas who bump to their 80's freestyle, electro-pop cassette-mix-tapes. Boludos, Boliches and Brahma.

Besos.

Ok, I couldn't resist. Some fotos:

Aca Esta

Hola a todos! So I decided that I'd had enough of trying to jam on as many attachment pics as gangster(g)-mail would allow. And, considering the hard to swallow fact that I'm already half way done with this So. Hemi stint, I figured that a few fotos and a few words here and there might just make out alright on this band-wagon of a metodo that is the blog. So get up on the nerd-net and fijense!

Here are some starter BA pics to get the ball rollin, set the proverbial stage:
